Skylight

Tuesday 20 – Saturday 24 April 2010
SKYLIGHT
By David Hare

In one of London’s less desirable districts, successful restaurateur Tom arrives unannounced at Kyra’s flat. Exploding back into her life he demands forgiveness for their adulterous affair which she ended three years ago, the moment his dying wife learned of its existence. Skylight blends humour, tension, tenderness and confrontation, as Tom and Kyra’s love is challenged by their differing views.

A gripping and thrilling play, an impassioned head-on collision of values and confused desires by one of Britain’s most successful playwrights, it was first performed at the National Theatre in 1995 and won the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 1996.

“The play of the decade” The Spectator
“A magnificent chamber play by one of the few major playwrights in our language” New York Times
“There are times in the theatre when you suddenly find yourself in the grip of silence…what is happening on stage is both thrilling and dangerous” Sunday Times

Principal Sponsor: Godfrey Morgan Solicitors
Supported by Arts Council England

The Pillowman

Tuesday 19 – Saturday 23 October 2010
The Pillowman
By Martin McDonagh

A viciously funny, seriously disturbing and pitch black comedy. A writer is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of child-murders that are happening in his town. The good cop/bad cop antics of his interrogators mask a very dark undertone as the author is pressured into revealing the eventsof his own childhood that inspired his writing.

Martin McDonagh’s searingly brilliant play premièred at the National Theatre in 2003, and
won the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play.

“McDonagh’s invention of a new comedy-horror genre and his virtuoso technical skill leaves
most playwrights gasping.... For those with strong stomachs it’s horribly watchable”
Independent on Sunday

“An extraordinary play. Hauntingly, horribly entertaining”
Mail on Sunday

McDonagh’s plays and the award-winning film In Bruges have cemented his reputation as an artist unafraid to confront the darkest aspects of human behaviour, using his trademark mix of violence and humour.
