Our work experience placement scheme is mainly aimed at Year 10's (14-15) year old students, but anyone who is studying/building a career in theatre may apply. Applications can be made by printed letter or email.

If you do decide to apply for a placement please include the following details in your introductory letter:

  • A brief CV, including your achievements and interests (This is an essential requirement). Please tell us the name of your school if you are a student.
  • Confirmation that you are applying for a one-week (Monday – Friday) Work Experience Placement.
  • Inform us that you are seeking experience in a backstage technical role or front of house.
  • Tell us which areas of theatre work interest you the most and what you might like to achieve on a work experience placement here at Norwich Theatre Royal.
  • Does this placement concern any future career plans you have?
  • Please enclose a fully written reference with your application that is not from a parent or other family member
  • Provide your home/mobile contact telephone number and a parent/guardian’s daytime telephone number - in case of emergencies.
  • Your date of birth.
  • Your shoe size (as you may be required to wear safety boots).
  • A statement that confirms you are able to work in the evenings and that you can arrange suitable and safe transport home.
  • If you have a medical condition (such as asthma or epilepsy) or impediment (such as hard of hearing, very poor eyesight or vertigo) or any other condition that we should be aware of or that may prevent you from attending this placement.

We also require that you demonstrate the following candidate criteria in order to be provisionally acceted on to our scheme:

  • An active interest in attending Theatre and Live Events.
  • Past experience of participating in Theatre and Live Events either as a performer or behind the scenes.
  • An enthusiasm to learn by getting ‘hands on’ experience.
  • The ability to work in what can be a high pressure fast moving environment and also the maturity to be attentive during quieter periods.
  • Some knowledge of work in an industrial environment and a basic understanding of the Health and Safety issues they may encounter.
  • An ability to work as a part of a team and also to carry out individual tasks accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Good social skills with an ability to communicate with a wide range of people without inhibition.
  • Punctuality and an ability to work to a weekly schedule that will only be finalised on the first day of the placement. 

If accepted you will also be required to attend a pre-placement interview.
This will determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate for our scheme
